On 6th May 2023, King Charles III became the first British monarch to be crowned in the 21st century. Not since 1953 has the nation witnessed such a historic moment, and many will never experience another coronation in their lifetime. Although the world has changed greatly since the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II, the traditions of ceremony, celebration, and national unity remain as meaningful as ever. For years to come, people will remember where they were on the day the King was crowned.
To honour this landmark occasion, an exceptional silver crown has been released — the first of its kind to feature the official Coronation Emblem. This emblem pays tribute to His Majesty’s deep appreciation of the natural world and symbolises the unity of the four nations of the United Kingdom.
King Charles III, our sixty-fifth monarch, undertook the sacred coronation ceremony on 6th May 2023. The event is rooted in centuries of tradition: William the Conqueror was crowned in Westminster Abbey in 1066; Edward I commissioned the Coronation Chair in 1300; and Charles II remade the King Edward Crown for his coronation in 1661. All three elements continue to play a role in the modern ceremony, reflecting the King’s wish to “look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry”.
The celebrations surrounding the coronation — from community street parties to nationwide volunteering — created memories that will endure for generations. Many will wish to mark this moment with a lasting keepsake.
This historic moment is being honoured with a beautifully crafted commemorative silver crown. The official Coronation Emblem forms the centrepiece of the design, uniting the rose of England, the thistle of Scotland, the daffodil of Wales, and the shamrock of Northern Ireland into the shape of the St Edward’s Crown. This is the first silver crown ever to carry this emblem.
The 2023 King Charles III Coronation .925 Silver One Crown Coin had a mintage of just 999 coins.
The obverse of the coin is equally significant. His Majesty faces the opposite direction to his mother, continuing a tradition that dates back to the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660 and the reign of his namesake, King Charles II.
This .925 silver coin is accompanied by a Sterling Mint Certificate of Authenticity and a presentation display box.
