Limited Edition Robertson's Golly Badges

From the mid‑nineties into the early 2000s, Robertson’s issued a small group of limited edition Golly badges that now stand among the most coveted pieces in the collecting world. Produced in far smaller numbers than the standard enamel issues, these special releases marked key events and commemorations, and ultimately signalled the closing years of the Golly tradition. Their scarcity, combined with the sense of finality they represent, has made them especially prized by enthusiasts.

The 1998 World Cup Golly, limited to five thousand, remains one of the most recognisable of the late promotional designs, its footballing theme capturing the spirit of the tournament. Two years earlier came the 1996 limited edition set of five — Baby, Clown, Flamenco, Mountie and Pirate — a charming themed group that, although never issued as a boxed set, is highly sought after when found complete. As the millennium approached, Robertson’s introduced the Gollympic Games 2000 collection, a boxed sporting set restricted to two thousand, followed by the Silver Millennium brooch, another boxed commemorative piece limited to two thousand.

The final farewell Golly badge issues hold a particular poignancy. The 9ct gold‑plated Farewell Golly, boxed and limited to five thousand, was met with such enthusiasm that demand quickly exceeded supply. In response, and to soften the disappointment of collectors who missed out, Robertson’s released the silver Farewell Golly, issued in a smaller run of three thousand. Together, these farewell pieces marked the end of an era, and today they remain some of the most evocative and closely watched badges in the entire Robertson’s story.
