Description
A magnificent Paul Cardew teapot entitled The Crime Writer’s Desk, transforming a writer’s wonderfully cluttered workspace into an imaginative, full-size teapot. This example still has its original waste paper basket, a delightful accompanying detail filled with sculpted, crumpled manuscript pages.
The glossy warm-brown desk is modelled with twin banks of drawers, tiny gold-coloured knobs and a central kneehole. On the desktop sits a beautifully detailed black typewriter, complete with round gold-coloured keys, metallic-toned typebars and a sheet of manuscript poised in the roller, as though the writer has just stepped away mid-chapter.
A black rotary telephone sits alongside a framed picture of Marilyn Monroe, while loose papers and a revolver add to the busy desktop scene. Together, these miniature objects create a characterful little world of telephone calls, discarded drafts and a crime story waiting to be finished.
Full-size design with its original basket
- Paul Cardew: The Crime Writer’s Desk.
- Full-size teapot measuring 30 cm from the tip of the spout to the tip of the handle.
- Not to be confused with Cardew’s miniature or one-cup collectors’ series.
- Includes the original basket-weave-style waste paper basket with sculpted discarded pages.
- Detailed desktop featuring a typewriter, telephone, framed Marilyn Monroe picture, papers and revolver
- Handmade and hand painted at the Cardew Pottery in Devon.
A striking display piece for a Cardew collector, a lover of unusual teapots or anyone with a soft spot for literary curiosities. Imagine it on a bookshelf beside your favourite mysteries, with its little waste paper basket keeping the writer’s discarded ideas close at hand.
