Description
Issued in 2001 as one of the final themed collections before the Golly scheme came to an end, the Golly Diary – Days of the Week boxed set brings together seven enamel badges inspired directly by the traditional rhyme printed in gold on the diary‑style case. Only 3,000 sets were produced, and complete boxed examples are becoming increasingly scarce as many collectors now remove the badges for framing or display.
The case designed like a book in simulated leather generally did not survive well, but this example displays more presentable than many other surviving examples.
Inside are the seven Days‑of‑the‑Week Gollies, each corresponding to the verse on the inside cover:
Monday’s Golly is fair of face.
Tuesday’s Golly is full of grace.
Wednesday’s Golly is full of woe.
Thursday’s Golly has far to go.
Friday’s Golly is loving and giving.
Saturday’s Golly works hard for a living.
But the Golly that is born on the Sabbath day, is fair and wise and good and gay.
Each badge reflects its line from the rhyme, with distinctive poses and colouring that capture the final creative flourish of Robertson’s design work.
Although the badges in this edition were not individually numbered, the limited production run and the rarity of intact boxed sets give this collection enduring appeal among Golly collectors.
