Description

A richly modelled majolica “Manxman” style sailor teapot, designed as a seated seafarer perched on a coiled rope, with one leg cleverly forming the spout and a section of rope shaping the handle. The glossy majolica glaze brings real depth to the colours — warm browns, sea‑blue tones, and naturalistic shading that highlight the folds of his tunic and the texture of the rope beneath him.

His cobalt‑blue tunic is decorated in underglaze with two moulded Three Legs of Man (Triskelion) motifs, giving the piece a strong Manx identity. The glaze has that classic majolica sheen, pooling beautifully in the recesses and enhancing the sculptural detail. There is no maker’s stamp, which is typical of many early majolica novelty forms. A small amount of chipping is present around the inner neck as pictured, (not visible with the head in place) but the exterior remains bright, expressive, and full of character. A charming and uncommon example of maritime‑themed majolica.
